Josef Leopold Zvonař (born January 22, 1824 in Kublov near Beroun, † November 23, 1865 in Prague) was a Czech music publicist, music teacher, organist and composer. Since he was born in the same year as Smetana, like many other contemporaries he was artistically overshadowed by him and is therefore less well known to this day. Zvonař composed operas, overtures, chamber music and numerous works of sacred music and was involved in the Czech national movement.
He also set texts to music, such as the patriotic poem „Čechy krásné, Čechy mé“ by Václav Jaromír Piček. As a constant propagator of Czech music, Josef Jiskra (* 1935 in East Bohemia) skilfully arranged this folk song for wind orchestra.
